ABA Community Service Project:  Relay for Life

The first annual American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Almaden raised an impressive $169,000, and still counting, for cancer research and patient services. Thirty-seven teams and 600 participants – including a team of 14 ABA members – were left exhausted after walking an estimated 5,000 combined miles at Leland High School’s Pat Tillman Stadium. ABA’s team of 14 members plus family members and friends had at least one walker on the Leland High track at all times during the 24 hour walk-a-thon on June 30 and July 1. ABA brought in $6,800 through fundraising and in-kind donations for the Almaden Valley Relay For Life. According to event Chair Patti Gahagan, “The American Cancer Society’s goal for a new relay is $25,000. Thanks to the support from the community, we raised much more!”  Thanks to the ABA team’s chair, Gail Infeld, and the Community Service Committee for their time and efforts to achieve such an important community goal.
